Which apps does this work in?
OpenAkita is its own standalone app ā you download it and chat with it directly, or bind it to a messaging app you already use, like Telegram, WeChat, or Feishu, by scanning a QR code.
Do I need an account or a key to use it?
Yes. You'll need an account with an AI provider, such as Anthropic (maker of Claude), DeepSeek, or another supported provider, and you'll enter a personal key from that provider when you set OpenAkita up.
How hard is it to set up?
The desktop app has a guided setup wizard, so no coding or command-line work is needed ā you download it, install it, enter your key, and you're ready to go in a few minutes. Developers can also install it from the command line if they prefer.
Can I use this to research a topic and get a written summary?
Yes ā you can ask it to search the web, read multiple pages, and pull the findings together into a summary or a full write-up, without you doing any of the searching yourself.
Can I use this to keep my files organized?
Yes ā you can ask it to read through a folder, rename files, sort them into categories, or search for specific content across many files at once.
Will it remember things I've told it before?
Yes, it keeps track of your preferences and past conversations over time, so you don't have to repeat yourself.
Can it take actions on my computer, like clicking or typing?
Yes, it can take screenshots, click buttons, and type into other programs on your screen, which is handy for repetitive tasks you'd normally do by hand.
Is this free to use?
The app itself is free and open-source, but you'll still pay your AI provider (such as Claude, DeepSeek, or another provider) for the usage behind the scenes, based on their own pricing.
