MCP.Pizza Chef: Dicklesworthstone

A do-it-yourself chat program that lives on your own computer and comes in two flavours, a browser page and a terminal window. It talks to Claude, connects to as many tool servers as you like, finds them by itself on your machine and your home network, and lets you branch a conversation to try two directions without losing the first. A paid Anthropic key is required and billed to you, and it insists on a very recent version of Python.

🧠 Ultimate MCP Client

Python 3.13+ License: MIT MCP Protocol Ruff

A comprehensive, asynchronous client for the Model Context Protocol (MCP). It bridges the gap between powerful AI models like Anthropic's Claude and a universe of external tools, local/remote servers, and contextual data sources, enabling complex, stateful interactions.

🎯 Purpose & Motivation

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) standardizes how AI models interact with external capabilities (tools, resources, prompts). This client aims to be the ultimate interface for leveraging MCP, providing:

  1. Robust Connectivity: Reliably connect to diverse MCP servers (stdio, sse) with built-in resilience, advanced error handling, and intelligent discovery.
  2. Rich User Experience: Offer both a powerful interactive CLI and a modern, reactive Web UI, ensuring usability for diverse workflows.
  3. Advanced State Management: Go beyond simple chat history with forkable conversation graphs, persistent state across sessions, and smart context optimization techniques.
  4. Developer Introspection: Provide deep observability via OpenTelemetry metrics and traces, alongside live dashboards for monitoring client and server health and performance.
  5. Seamless Integration: Easily discover and integrate local filesystem scripts, local network (mDNS) servers, local port scan results, remote registry entries, and even configurations from existing tools like the Claude Desktop app.

This project tackles significant engineering challenges, especially around reliable stdio communication, asynchronous state management, and providing a consistent experience across both CLI and Web interfaces, to deliver a truly comprehensive MCP client solution.

🔌 Key Features

ultimate_mcp_client FAQ

Do I need a key, and what does it cost?
Yes, an Anthropic key, and every message is billed to your own account. The upside is that it shows a running cost estimate as you go, which most chat apps hide from you.
How hard is it to install?
Hard for a non-developer. It needs Python version 3.13 or newer, which many computers do not have yet, and everything is driven from a terminal. There is no installer and no hosted version.
Is the browser page safe to leave running?
On its own settings, yes, because it only listens to your own computer. The readme also shows an example that opens it to your entire network, and you should not copy that one. The page has no password of any kind and accepts requests from any website, so anyone nearby could spend your credit and use your connected tools.
Does it go looking around my network?
Yes, out of the box. It scans your own computer's ports for tool servers and listens for others being announced on your local network. Both behaviours can be switched off in the settings.
Where does my key get stored?
If you set it as an environment variable it stays out of the saved settings. If you instead type it when prompted, it is written into a settings file on your computer as readable text.
Can I use this instead of a desktop chat app?
Yes, that is the point of it. You get a full conversation window, tool management, themes and a live dashboard, plus a terminal version for people who prefer typing commands.
Is there a catch in the licence?
Yes, and it is unusual. The permissive licence carries a rider granting no rights at all to OpenAI, Anthropic, their affiliates, or anyone acting for or on behalf of them, contractors and consultants included. If that describes your employer or your client, you are not allowed to use it.
Is it actively worked on?
The last code change was March 2026, so it is reasonably current, and the project has no open issues. It is one person's work rather than a company product.
