The author has marked this as replaced by Hugging Face's own MCP server, available hosted at hf.co/mcp or run yourself as hf-mcp-server, and by Gradio's built-in MCP support. No code has been published here since June 2025. What it did: hand a list of Hugging Face Spaces to Claude Desktop so you could generate images, describe photos, transcribe audio, or read text aloud in a conversation. Anyone starting today should go to the official server instead.

Tip

You can access and configure Hugging Face MCP services directly at https://hf.co/mcp, including Gradio spaces.

This project has been superceded by the official Hugging Face MCP Server and Gradio MCP Endpoints.

Alternatively you can run hf-mcp-server locally as a STDIO Server, or with robust support for SSE, Streaming HTTP and Streaming HTTP JSON Mode. This also runs a local UI for selecting tools and endpoints and supports ToolListChangedNotifications too.

Is this project still maintained?

No. The author marks it as replaced by Hugging Face's official MCP server at hf.co/mcp, and no code has shipped here since June 2025.

What should I use instead?

The official Hugging Face MCP server, hosted at hf.co/mcp or run yourself as hf-mcp-server. Many Spaces now offer tools directly too.

Will it still work if I install it?

It might, but nothing here has been fixed in over a year, so anything that breaks will stay broken.

Did it need a key?

Only for private Spaces, where you supplied a Hugging Face token. Public Spaces worked without one.

Which app was it built for?

Claude Desktop, with a mode that showed images in the chat and saved other files to a folder you chose.

Can I use this to generate images in chat?

You can, but the official Hugging Face server does the same job and is the one still being fixed.
