Is this project still maintained?
Slowly at best. The code has not changed since August 2025, roughly a year ago. It is published by Baidu themselves and has not been archived, but do not expect quick fixes.
Do I need a key?
Yes. Register for a free developer key on Baidu's open platform and switch on the map service for it before connecting.
Does it cover places outside China?
Place search is advertised as worldwide, but Baidu's mapping data is centred on mainland China, so that is where results are strongest.
Which apps does it work in?
Any assistant that supports MCP. The documentation shows Cursor and Claude, along with Baidu's own agent platforms.
Can I use this to plan a day of sightseeing?
Yes. Search for places worth visiting, chain them into a route, then check the weather and traffic for the day you are going.
How hard is setup?
You register for a key, then paste a short snippet with that key into your assistant's settings. A hosted connection is offered too and is the faster option.
Is the documentation in English?
The main guide is, but the fuller instructions and platform-specific guides are in Chinese.
