ReActMCP Web Search

Installation

  1. Clone the Repository

Do I need a key?
Yes, an Exa key for the search tools. Exa gives new accounts some free credit, and after that every search draws on paid credit, with summaries costing more.
What happens if I forget the key?
The search server refuses to start at all rather than starting and failing later, so put the key in place before you first launch it.
Can I use this to check today's news before writing something?
Yes — ask for recent coverage and you get titles, links, publication dates, and a short summary of each result in one reply.
Is it a client or a server?
Its own description calls it a client, but the part you install hands search abilities to your assistant, which makes it a server. The bundled chat program is the client half, and it is optional.
How many things can it do?
Two for search. A second, separate server in the same repository adds five page-reading abilities, but it needs its own Firecrawl key and is started on its own.
Do I need an OpenAI key as well?
Not for the search tools. The example settings list one, but it is only used by the optional bundled chat program, not by anything your assistant calls.
How hard is the setup?
Developer-level. You download the code, install Python packages, write a settings file holding your key, and start the server yourself, or build the container image supplied.
Which apps does it work in?
Claude Desktop is mentioned, and any app that launches a local tool should work. A container image is included for hosts that prefer that route.
