mcp-redis

MCP.Pizza Chef: redis

Redis maintains this one itself. An assistant connected to it can save values that expire on their own, keep lists and queues, work with JSON documents, publish and read messages, and search by meaning rather than exact wording. There is also a search over Redis's own documentation for when you get stuck. You need a Redis database already running, plus its connection details. After that, setup is a short settings snippet, with a Docker image available too. Claude Desktop and VS Code with Copilot are both covered.

Overview

The Redis MCP Server is a natural language interface designed for agentic applications to efficiently manage and search data in Redis. It integrates seamlessly with MCP (Model Content Protocol) clients, enabling AI-driven workflows to interact with structured and unstructured data in Redis. Using this MCP Server, you can ask questions like:

  • "Store the entire conversation in a stream"
  • "Cache this item"
  • "Store the session with an expiration time"
  • "Index and search this vector"

mcp-redis FAQ

Do I need my own Redis database?
Yes. This connects to a Redis database you already run, and you supply its address and sign-in details.
Is this the official one?
Yes. Redis publishes and maintains it, and it is available from PyPI and as a Docker image.
Which apps work with it?
Claude Desktop and VS Code with GitHub Copilot are documented, and any MCP-capable app can connect.
Can I use this to remember things between chats?
Yes. Saving a value, optionally with an expiry, is one of the built-in actions, which is how people use it as a memory store.
Can it delete my data?
It can write and remove data, so restrict what the account it uses is allowed to do before pointing it at anything important.
Does it work with Azure's managed Redis?
Yes. It supports Microsoft Entra ID sign-in for Azure Managed Redis.
Is it still maintained?
Yes. Redis updated the code in August 2026.
