Working inside ChatGPT's Developer Mode, this tool gives your assistant direct access to one project folder on your computer at a time. It can open and search your files, make the edits you ask for, run safe check commands, and show you a clear summary of everything that changed before anything is saved for good. No extra account is needed beyond your existing ChatGPT login, though you will need to install a small helper program on your computer first and turn on a couple of settings inside ChatGPT.

codexpro FAQ

Can I use this to fix a bug in my code?
Yes — you can describe the problem to ChatGPT and it will look through your project, find the likely cause, and make the fix, showing you what it changed before it's kept.
Which app does this work in?
It works specifically inside ChatGPT's Developer Mode. It does not connect to other assistants such as Claude or Gemini.
Do I need an account or a paid key to use this?
No extra account or paid key is required beyond the ChatGPT login you already have.
How hard is this to set up?
It takes real setup — you install a small helper program from a command line window, run a short setup step, and then paste a web address it gives you into ChatGPT's settings. It's not a one-click install.
Will it change my files without asking me first?
No — edits are made carefully, and you can review a summary of exactly what changed before you decide to keep it.
Can I use this with more than one project at a time?
Yes — you can allow several project folders and switch between them, though each needs to be added on purpose first.
Is my code sent to some outside company's servers?
No — it connects your own ChatGPT session directly to your own computer, so your files stay local rather than passing through a separate hosted service.
Can I use this to review what I changed before committing my work?
Yes — you can ask ChatGPT to show you a summary of every file that changed, which parts of your project were affected, and what to test next.
