Five tools, none of which change anything on arXiv: search papers by title and abstract with date filters and sorting, pull one paper's authors, abstract and links, browse the subject category list, and download a paper's full text converted from its PDF. That last one takes half a minute or more and can flood a conversation, so ask for the abstract first. Nothing is needed to sign in, and the author also runs a hosted version you can add to Claude.ai without installing anything.

This server can be run in two modes: as a local stdio server for desktop clients or as a network-accessible web server.

Do I need an account or a token?
No. arXiv is free and open, and this asks for no sign-in of any kind.
Can I use this to read a whole paper, not just the summary?
Yes. One tool turns a paper's PDF into readable text, though it takes thirty to ninety seconds and a long paper can swamp the conversation.
Which apps does it work in?
Claude Desktop and anything that takes a small config file. There is also a hosted version you can add to Claude.ai as a connector with nothing to install.
Can it find papers from a specific time period?
Yes. Searches accept a date range and can be sorted by newest, most recently updated, or best match.
Does it cover journals other than arXiv?
No. It searches arXiv only, which is strongest in physics, maths, computer science, and quantitative biology.
Is it slow?
Searches are quick. Fetching full text is the slow part, and arXiv's own rules hold it to one request every three seconds.
