MCP.Pizza Chef: homeassistant-ai

This tool connects your AI assistant directly to your Home Assistant setup, so you can check on your smart home and control it just by asking. Turn lights on or off, adjust your thermostat, lock your doors, check whether a window is open, or trigger an existing automation — all through a normal conversation in Claude Desktop, Claude.ai, ChatGPT, Cursor, or VS Code. Setup runs through Home Assistant itself (as an add-on or through HACS), and most installs work without you needing to manage a separate access token.

ha-mcp FAQ

Which AI apps does this work with?
It works with Claude Desktop, Claude.ai, ChatGPT, Cursor, and VS Code, along with any other assistant that supports connecting to outside tools.
Do I need an account or an access token to use it?
You need a Home Assistant account of your own, since this connects to a Home Assistant setup you already run rather than working on its own. The easiest installation method skips a separate access token entirely; other methods may ask you to set up a secure address for your assistant to connect to.
Can I use this to turn my lights on and off by just asking my AI assistant?
Yes — you can ask your assistant to turn any connected light, switch, or plug on or off, dim it, or change its color, the same way you would from the Home Assistant app.
Can I use this to check if I left a door unlocked or a window open?
Yes — you can ask about the current state of any sensor or lock in your Home Assistant setup and get a plain-language answer back.
How hard is it to set up?
The easiest route is installing it as an add-on or component inside Home Assistant itself, then copying one address into your AI app's settings. No coding is required, though it takes a few more steps than a single click.
Will this work if I don't already use Home Assistant?
No — this tool works with an existing Home Assistant setup. You will need Home Assistant running first before you can connect an AI assistant to it.
Can my AI assistant run my existing automations and scenes?
Yes — once connected, you can ask it to trigger any automation or scene you have already created in Home Assistant, such as a goodnight routine that locks the doors and turns off the lights.
