MCP.Pizza Chef: microsoft

Made by the Playwright team at Microsoft, it opens a genuine browser and works a page the way a person would: following links, pressing buttons, typing into fields, uploading files, saving screenshots or PDFs. Because it reads the page's own text description rather than pixels, it rarely gets confused about what it is looking at. Paste a short settings block into VS Code, Cursor, Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Windsurf. No account or key is needed, only Node 18 or newer.

README

Playwright MCP

A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that provides browser automation capabilities using Playwright. This server enables LLMs to interact with web pages through structured accessibility snapshots, bypassing the need for screenshots or visually-tuned models.

Key Features

  • Fast and lightweight. Uses Playwright's accessibility tree, not pixel-based input.
  • LLM-friendly. No vision models needed, operates purely on structured data.
  • Deterministic tool application. Avoids ambiguity common with screenshot-based approaches.

Requirements

  • Node.js 18 or newer
  • VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Desktop or any other MCP client

Getting started

First, install the Playwright MCP server with your client. A typical configuration looks like this:

    "playwright": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "@playwright/mcp@latest"
      ]
    }
  }
}

You can also install the Playwright MCP server using the VS Code CLI:

# For VS Code
code --add-mcp '{"name":"playwright","command":"npx","args":["@playwright/mcp@latest"]}'

After installation, the Playwright MCP server will be available for use with your GitHub Copilot agent in VS Code.

playwright-mcp FAQ

Which apps does this work in?
VS Code, Cursor, Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Windsurf and other MCP clients.
Do I need a paid account or key?
No. The browser runs on your own computer and nothing else is required beyond Node 18 or newer.
Can I use this to fill in a long web form?
Yes — say what belongs in each field and the assistant types it into a real page.
Does it look at screenshots to understand a page?
By default it reads the page's own accessibility text, which is faster and more reliable, and it can still take screenshots on request.
What else can it handle?
Saving pages as PDFs, switching tabs, uploading files, and pretending to be a device such as an iPhone 15.
Will I see the browser window?
Yes by default; turn on the headless option if you would rather it work out of sight.
