win-cli-mcp-server

MCP.Pizza Chef: simon-ami

Retired and archived in August 2025, this add-on gave an assistant the ability to run PowerShell, Command Prompt, and Git Bash commands on a Windows machine, and to reach other machines over SSH, with blocked-command lists and allowed folders as a safety net. Its author points people to Desktop Commander MCP instead. Nothing has changed here in a year and the archived project can no longer take fixes, so treat it as reference material rather than something to install.

win-cli-mcp-server FAQ

Is this still maintained?
No. The project was archived in August 2025 and marked deprecated by its author, who recommends Desktop Commander MCP for the same kind of work.
Can I still install it?
The published package still exists, so it will usually start, but no bugs or security problems will ever be fixed. Prefer the recommended replacement.
Does it work on a Mac or on Linux?
No. It is built around Windows shells, so PowerShell, Command Prompt, and Git Bash on Windows only.
Do I need a key or an account?
No. It runs locally and needs no sign-in, though SSH connections need their own credentials.
Can I use this to let an assistant tidy up my computer?
It could, and that is exactly why it needs care. It hands over real command-line access to your files and settings, limited only by the block list and folder rules you configure.
How hard was the setup?
You pasted a short block into your assistant's settings, then optionally created a configuration file to restrict commands and folders.
