MCP.Pizza Chef: danielmeppiel

Fifteen tools look up single tables, search thousands of them by name or column, follow the links between them, read the stored program code behind a report, and run one read-only query with the answer capped at a hundred rows. What it wants is not a key but database sign-in details: a user name, a password and the address of the database. Read-only really is the default here, and the code genuinely refuses anything that is not a plain read. Development has been quiet since August 2025.

MCP Server - Oracle DB Context

English | 中文

A powerful Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that provides contextual database schema information for large Oracle databases, enabling AI assistants to understand and work with databases containing thousands of tables.

Table of Contents

Overview

The MCP Oracle DB Context server solves a critical challenge when working with very large Oracle databases: how to provide AI models with accurate, relevant database schema information without overwhelming them with tens of thousands of tables and relationships.

By intelligently caching and serving database schema information, this server allows AI assistants to:

  • Look up specific table schemas on demand
  • Search for tables that match specific patterns
  • Understand table relationships and foreign keys
  • Get database vendor information

Features

  • Smart Schema Caching: Builds and maintains a local cache of your database schema to minimize database queries
  • Targeted Schema Lookup: Retrieve schema for specific tables without loading the entire database structure
  • Table Search: Find tables by name pattern matching
  • Relationship Mapping: Understand foreign key relationships between tables
  • Oracle Database Support: Built specifically for Oracle databases
  • MCP Integration: Works seamlessly with GitHub Copilot in VSCode, Claude, ChatGPT, and other AI assistants that support MCP
  • Read-Only Mode: Default security mode that prevents write operations while allowing full read access

oracle-mcp-server FAQ

Is it still being maintained?
Only loosely. The last code change was August 2025, so it has been quiet for about a year. Nothing is broken as a result, but do not expect quick fixes or new features.
Do I need a key?
No. What you supply is an ordinary database sign-in: a user name, a password and the address of the database. The documented setup for VS Code asks for the password each time rather than saving it in a file, which is the safer of the two options.
Can it change or delete my data?
Not as shipped, and the block is real rather than decorative. Only plain read statements are allowed through, several statements bundled together are rejected, and anything else is refused outright. If you deliberately switch read-only off, updates and deletions then run with no confirmation.
Which apps does it work in?
GitHub Copilot in VS Code, in agent mode, and Claude Desktop. The instructions also list ChatGPT, but the ChatGPT app only accepts hosted connectors, so a local server like this one will not appear there.
How hard is it to set up?
Hard for a non-developer. The easy path is Docker; the alternative needs Python, the uv tool and, for the heavier connection mode, Oracle's own client software installed as well.
Can I use this to understand a database nobody documented?
Yes, that is exactly what it was built for. It keeps a local index of the structure so your assistant can pull in the handful of tables that matter instead of drowning in ten thousand of them.
Will it dump our whole database into the chat?
No. Queries are capped at a hundred rows by default and most tools return structure rather than contents. Even so, anyone who can talk to your assistant can read whatever that database sign-in can read, so use a limited account.
