mcpvault

MCP.Pizza Chef: bitbonsai

Connect your favorite AI assistant directly to the notes you already keep in Obsidian, so it can look things up, add new notes, and keep the special details at the top of each note (like tags and dates) from getting scrambled while it edits. It works with Claude Desktop, Claude Code, ChatGPT Desktop, Cursor, and Windsurf, needs no account or key, and simply points at the folder on your computer where your notes live.

mcpvault FAQ

Can I use this to search across all my notes at once?
Yes — you can ask your assistant to search your entire vault for a keyword or topic, and it will return the matching notes with relevant snippets.
Can I use this to create and organize new notes?
Yes — you can ask your assistant to create a new note, add tags to it, and place it in the right folder, all without opening Obsidian yourself.
Which apps does this work with?
It works with Claude Desktop, Claude Code, ChatGPT Desktop (on Enterprise plans), Cursor, and Windsurf, along with other apps that support the Model Context Protocol.
Do I need an account or API key to use it?
No — there is no sign-up and no key required. It simply reads from and writes to the Obsidian notes folder already on your computer.
How hard is it to set up?
You install Node.js once, then paste a short snippet into your AI app's settings that points at your vault folder — no coding required.
Will it mess up my existing notes or formatting?
No — it is built to safely read and edit the special details at the top of your notes, like tags and dates, without corrupting them, and deleting a note requires confirmation first.
Does it work with AI models other than Claude?
Yes — because it uses the open Model Context Protocol, it also works with ChatGPT, Gemini-based tools, and other compatible AI assistants, not just Claude.
Can it read my whole vault, or just one note at a time?
Both — you can ask it to read a single note, read several notes at once, or list everything in a folder.
