Once connected, your assistant can read and send Teams messages for you: post in a channel, reply in a thread, start a one-to-one or group chat, edit or delete something you sent, and search everything you have access to. It can also upload files, pull down images shared in a conversation, look up colleagues in the company directory, and show which messages mention you. You sign in with your own Microsoft 365 account, so it only ever sees what you can already see.

teams-mcp FAQ

Which apps does this work in?
Cursor, VS Code, and Claude are shown in the setup notes, and it works with any assistant that supports MCP.
Do I need a key?
You sign in to your Microsoft 365 account with a short code, and your workplace has to allow the permissions it asks for.
How hard is setup?
Paste a short settings block into your assistant, then sign in once when it prompts you.
Can I use this to send a message to my team?
Yes — it can post in channels, reply in threads, and start new one-to-one or group chats.
Can it see things I am not allowed to see?
No. It acts as you, so it is limited to the teams, chats, and files your own account can already reach.
Can it edit or delete messages?
Yes, but only ones you sent yourself, and deletes are the reversible kind Teams already supports.
Is there a safer read-only mode?
Yes. A read-only setting asks for fewer permissions so it can look but never post.
