OpenDataMCP

MCP.Pizza Chef: OpenDataMCP

The pitch is a whole catalogue of free public datasets, but only one ever shipped: Swiss Federal Railways. Three questions get answered — current rail traffic disruptions, railway line records, and rolling stock details — pulled live from the free SBB open data site. No account, key or payment is involved, and one short command wires it into Claude Desktop. Worth knowing before you install: the repository has had no commits since December 2024, and a second data source was never added.

Unmaintained · no commits since December 2024; promised extra datasets never shipped

OpenDataMCP FAQ

Is this project still alive?
Effectively no. Nothing has been committed since December 2024, and the promised second and third data sources never arrived.
How many datasets can I actually reach?
One. Despite the wording about connecting any open data, Swiss Federal Railways is the only source that ships, covering disruptions, railway lines and rolling stock.
Do I need a key or a paid account?
No. The Swiss railway data is public and free, so there is nothing to sign up for and nothing to pay.
Which apps does it work in?
Claude Desktop is the one it configures for you. Other tool-capable apps can run it, but you would have to write the config entry by hand.
Can I use this to check whether my train home is delayed?
Only partly. It reports network-wide disruption notices and route facts, not live departure boards or per-train delays.
How hard is the setup?
Light. Install the uv command-line helper, then run one setup command and restart Claude Desktop. No coding.
Can I add a dataset of my own?
In principle yes — there is a template to copy — but it means writing Python and opening a pull request, and the project is not currently reviewing them.
